With a permanent creative narrative, the Arepita newsletter seeks to creatively package what is happening in Venezuela.

The market segment of this venture that began at the beginning of 2017, are those people who do not have much time available, but are interested in knowing the most important things in the last few hours. "If they want to expand the headlines, they have the link of those media that we consider are covering the news in the best way," explains Dariela Sosa, founder of the project, who mentions Runrunes, Effect Cocuyo, Prodavinci, El Estímulo, among others.

The arepa, a typical although not exclusive food of Venezuela, is made up of three key characteristics that in turn form the backbone of the newsletter in which a total of seven people participate:

El Relleno: news closers, explaining what is happening. 2) The Dough: more analytical to give context. It's a kind of zoom. 3) La Concha: something surprising, ironic, the most surprising thing about Arepita. The positive or funny note. "Sometimes it is difficult because the news is very bad," says Sosa.

Dariela Sosa, an open fan of the North American project The Skimm, highlights one of Arepita's main values: "It is a compilation of native Venezuelan digital media that is not censored."

In 2023, Arepita was the winner of the Online Journalism Awards in the Excellence in Newsletters category. It was the first Spanish-speaking media to achieve such recognition in the history of the category. It has also participated in collaborative campaigns and has diversified its content palette to other products such as special newsletters, weekly newsletters, summaries for social networks and podcasts.

Likewise, it has also ventured into other digital platforms to reach all types of audiences. This is how Arepita Delivery was born, a WhatsApp group for the distribution of the daily newsletter; and the Arepanitas, a segment of volunteer collaborators from different countries and regions of Venezuela, who participate in editorial discussions and the development of eventual pieces of the medium.
