Bacanalnica was born in July 2001 as a digital magazine dedicated mainly to entertainment. Its first evolution was in 2002, when the discussion forums grew to become the first and largest community of Nicaraguans on the Internet. That community fostered diversity in the content of Bacanalnica, there were discussion forums for all types of topics, including politics, economics, technology and art. In 2005, Bacanalnica started its own blog, focused on topics related to entertainment and culture, with a very Nicaraguan and humorous language. As a result of the rebellion of April 2018, we were morally obliged to comment on the national reality. After all, it was our primary audience, teenagers and young adults, who were the targets of the Sandinista government's repression. This was a watershed in the evolution of the site. Using the tools we already had (the blog, humor and a large audience) we ventured into topics of national relevance. Nowadays it is normal to read in Bacanalnica about human rights, democracy, politics or economics, always with the characteristic humor that makes understanding easier and an innovative and independent analysis that has brought new audiences.
