Capsule is a digital magazine for Kiwi women that aims to tell the stories that matter most to this community: from serious, to funny, from heartbreaking to thought-provoking. It began in May 2020, following the first Covid lockdown in Aotearoa New Zealand, which caused a mass redundancy and the shutdown of publisher Bauer Media, who made some of the country's most well-known magazines. Three former editors of some of those magazines, Kelly Meharg, Alice Hampson and Emma Clifton, got together to write the stories they wanted read and Capsule was born. Those stories encompass all sorts of topics from careers and work, health and wellness, lifestyle, pop culture, fashion styles and trends and interviews with Kiwi women, including well-known names like Gemma McCaw and Brodie Kane. They have regular series that delve into motherhood and relationships, including both marriage and divorce. In 2025, the publication celebrated its fifth birthday by launching the Capsule Collective, a fund dedicated to supporting Kiwi writers and journalists as well as important women's storytelling. In addition to its website, it also has an active Facebook and Instagram account as well as a weekly newsletter on Substack that is available to both paid and non-paying subscribers, with additional benefits and access for paid members.
