CivilNet is an online television and information source focused on human rights and democracy in Armenia, peace in the Caucasus, and events concerning the diaspora. Founded in 2011, CivilNet is a project of the Civilitas Foundation. The foundation aims to help strengthen Armenia's democratic development.
CivilNet is one of the leading independent media outlets in Armenia. Since its inception, CivilNet has provided multi-faceted, evidence-based news and analysis. The establishment of CivilNet's fact-checking unit was motivated by the imperative to counter misinformation, fake news, and manipulation, and to present the truth to the public.
The organisation seeks to become a member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), and uses the hashtag #CivilNetCheck to publish verified information. It also aligns its methodology with the standards of the Poynter Journalism Institute.
CivilNet cooperates with local, international, and Armenian diaspora organisations and individuals within the framework of various programmes.
