In 666 municipalities—more than half of the country's municipalities—there are no media outlets or teams of journalists that produce local information, according to the Cartographies of Information research published by the Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) in 2019. That is, nearly 10 million Colombians do not have access to truthful and reliable information about what is happening around them. Without local journalists, those in power can more easily evade accountability, and citizens are less certain about what is happening. Without local media, democracy remains blind and deaf. Consonante is an online media that publishes explained news and in-depth reports produced by a network of citizens trained in local journalism in municipalities considered information deserts in Colombia. If you are interested in learning more about Consonante, you can follow us on social networks or visit our website: www.consonante.org
