CroL.hr is a project of the Association for Media Activism – CroL, founded in 1999 as a public forum for the LGBT community. In 2012, the association launched CroL.hr, a news website specialising in LGBT rights. The forum still exists as a section on the website.

CroL.hr's mission is to provide information about all relevant aspects of the life of the LGBT community; encourage the LGBT community and organisations to communicate about their attitudes and lifestyles openly; and to encourage these communities to feel happy and positive about their sexuality. CroL.hr also publishes information on gender rights and feminism.

Furthermore, CroL.hr aims to use the media outlet as a source of activism and networking, cooperating with other media activists and organisations.

As a non-profit website, CroL.hr has always depended on the goodwill of LGBT activists, especially after the Ministry of Culture stopped funding non-profit media outlets. The editor-in-chief Iva Tomečić says: "It's hard to do quality journalism work when you can't pay journalists the money they deserve. We are all basically volunteering; we are paid very little."
