Dataphyte is a Nigerian media, research and data-analytics organisation founded to deploy data tools and technology for socio-economic development. It produces data-driven journalism, investigative reporting, policy research and interactive visualisations, and curates machine-readable open datasets to support scrutiny, planning and evidence-based decision-making. Dataphyte serves journalists, researchers, civil-society organisations, development practitioners and policymakers by transforming raw public and sector data into accessible stories, dashboards and data products.
Beyond reporting, Dataphyte builds civic-tech products and training initiatives. Notable projects and tools include Anfani (a public procurement and beneficial-ownership linkage tool), Goloka (a citizen-powered data-collection and spatial insights platform), Nubia (an AI-assisted data storytelling tool), Dataphyte Academy for capacity building, and a non-profit arm that supports civic actors and election monitoring. The organisation has produced extensive visualisations and specialised dashboards (for example on federal allocations and public procurement) and has partnered with local and international actors to broaden access to Nigerian socio-economic datasets.
Dataphyte has attracted grant and partnership support from international funders and collaborators, and its reporting and investigations have been cited in regional media and sector analyses. In 2024–2025 it expanded its product mix and announced a move toward a subscription model for premium policy research and investigative content, while continuing to publish open data assets and practical tools for transparency. Dataphyte is led by founder Joshua Olufemi and positions itself at the intersection of data science, journalism and civic technology to strengthen accountability and inform development debates in Nigeria and the region.
