DHyTecno is a medium specialized in the impact that different infocommunication technologies have on societies and human rights. It was started in 2017 by Carolina Martínez Elebi, who, as a Communication graduate, teacher and journalist, dedicated her career to investigating and disseminating how everyday technologies can violate fundamental rights, from freedom of expression and privacy, to access to information, education, health and democracy. This interest in unraveling the social impacts of technology led Carolina to look for a space to share her knowledge with a broader audience. This is how DHyTecno was born, as a Telegram channel that brought together all that information in one place, under the conviction that knowledge is power. Since its creation, DHyTecno has grown to form an active community, with more than a thousand people on the channel and more than 150 participants in a discussion group. This group has established itself as a space for collective dialogue, where participants share information, reflect on the impact of technological advances on our lives and help each other. The community is characterized by its capacity for respectful exchange, critical reflection and collaboration, promoting a true spirit of collectivity. In 2020, the project expanded its scope with the launch of a monthly newsletter, dedicated to analyzing specific topics related to technology and human rights, with the aim of making them understandable to all citizens. Topics such as the functioning of algorithms, the privacy of childhood, the risks of electronic voting, the right to disconnect, and the environmental impact of electronic waste have been addressed with the purpose of moving these discussions from specialized niches to the everyday sphere, such as a conversation at the family table. Currently, DHyTecno continues to expand and its focus on democratizing knowledge, convinced that understanding the impact of technology on our lives is essential to protect our rights in an increasingly interconnected world.
