Dubawa Ghana is the Ghana edition of DUBAWA, the West African fact‑checking initiative created by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID). Launched on February 25, 2020, it publishes nonpartisan fact checks, explainers and media‑literacy articles that scrutinise claims by politicians, public institutions and viral social posts. The team also produces local‑language content, including Twi, and runs recurring “Facebook Checks” that track misinformation on social platforms. Beyond publishing, Dubawa Ghana trains newsrooms and reporters; Ghanaian journalists routinely join its Kwame Karikari Fact‑Checking Fellowship, and the outlet co‑hosted the 2024 Africa Facts Summit in Accra. During the 2024 elections, Dubawa Ghana worked through the Ghana Fact‑checking Coalition to staff media situation rooms in Accra and Tamale, verify real‑time claims, and syndicate checks across more than 100 partner outlets in over 45 Ghanaian languages. It has pursued accountability reporting with tools such as Right to Information requests to the Presidency. DUBAWA operates as an IFCN‑signatory project within CJID, preserving editorial independence, transparent methodology and an open corrections policy; historically, it also serves as a third‑party fact‑checking partner for Meta. The organisation’s core purpose is to strengthen Ghana’s information ecosystem—helping audiences spot falsehoods, equipping journalists with verification skills, and grounding public debate in evidence.
