Echo24.cz was launched in 2014 by the former editor-in-chief of the newspaper Lidové noviny, Dalibor Balšínek, following the purchase of the newspaper in 2013 by Andrej Babiš. Babiš later became the country's prime minister. "We strongly believed the politicians should not own the media," Balšínek said.
Echo24.cz, a right-wing and conservative media outlet, started publishing online daily, with mostly opinion and explanatory journalism. From the start, Echo24.cz's revenue has come from paid content and subscriptions.
Balšínek and the established writers who left Lidové noviny together targeted their former readers; however, the digital platform proved not to be the best for reaching their conservative audience. So the organisation later launched a publishing house, and the online edition became a marketing tool to promote other printed products, such as magazines and books. The outlet sells printed products via its online shop.
Recently, the digital version of Echo24.cz has also started to become more popular.
