ECUADOR VERIFICA is a coalition that brings together the media, civil society organizations (CSOs) and universities, with the objective of verifying political discourse and promoting transparency in public institutions. Coordinated by Ecuador Chequea, this initiative was born in order to combat disinformation during the 2021 presidential elections. In this sense, between September 2020 and April 2021, its main challenge was to combat electoral disinformation, verify the veracity of the speech of the candidates for the Presidency and Vice Presidency of Ecuador. Ecuador Verifica has the support of international cooperation organizations committed to the fight against disinformation such as the National Democratic Institute (NDI) which, in coordination with plural and diverse organizations, media and academia, come together to offer tools that allow us to differentiate what is true from what is false.
