The Armadillo. Investigate power and tell stories. It is an independent media outlet with a focus on Medellín and Antioquia that is guided by a fundamental interest: contributing to the construction of more democratic agendas for the region. It was born in April 2021 due to the interest of a group of journalists from the city, with experience in traditional media, to commit to doing something that was not on the agenda. El Armadillo believes in the need for honest, rigorous, transparent and critical journalism. He writes about the ins and outs of public and private power; on public procurement, official guidelines, clientelism and corruption; and on political processes or any other topic that is relevant to understanding the region. It focuses on human rights, gender and the environment. It is constituted as a corporation, that means that it is a non-profit entity that is financed with its own resources; with pedagogical, training or support projects for specific sections by different private organizations. It also has a Vaki so that readers can make the contributions they consider fair. None of the funding sources compromises editorial independence.  El Armadillo believes in the power of the collective and that is why it is part of editorial alliances such as RedCheck (ColombiaCheck's network of regional checkers), and we have worked together with organizations and media such as La Silla Vacía, Cuestión Pública and the League Against Silencio. In 2022, El Armadillo Podcast was launched, a channel that explores the possibilities of sound language to tell stories, and in 2023 Fauna Local, a biweekly analysis and information podcast, aired.
