El Ciudadano

El Ciudadano.cl is a Chilean website with daily information. It is part of the People's Media Network, which is why it is declared as a Third Sector media to break the information siege. El Ciudadano is defined as "a publication that seeks to elevate from the local to the global the demands of the Chilean social organization as well as promote direct action by citizens for their right to self-determination." Editorially it is a libertarian medium, committed to caring for the environment, human rights and that believes in communication as a tool to strengthen democracy in the country. One of its main characteristics that differentiates it from the rest of the online media in Chile is that there is an area called "Cuidadanos reporters", where users can send their texts, photos and videos. El Ciudadano began on March 13, 2005 as a printed media, initially circulating only in the communes of La Unión, Río Bueno and Lago Ranco. After a few months it began to be distributed throughout the Los Ríos Region, and after a year and a half it cut its frequency from biweekly to monthly and expanded its circulation from Valparaíso to Puerto Montt. After that it began little by little, region after region, until reaching national circulation from Arica to Punta Arenas.
