El Foco is an association of investigative journalists founded on July 14, 2020 as a non-profit civil organization. It is a native digital medium that produces journalistic reports that are characterized by their rigor, independence and ethical principles. It seeks to provide information of public interest that helps Peruvians make the best decisions. Its reporters believe in the defense of democracy, the fight against corruption, human rights, social and economic justice, gender equality, interculturality and the defense of the environment. Its team is young: the average age of its reporters is 25 years old. Financial sustainability is thanks to its subscribers, donations via the Yape and Paypal applications and journalistic funds and contests. The motto of El Foco is “Journalism without untouchables”, and it is in response to the large and traditional Peruvian media that lately are characterized by prioritizing their commercial interests before the search for the truth and the defense of the public interest.
