El Otro País is a Paraguayan digital journalistic medium, promoted by the small Simplified Actions Company Ñe’ẽ Raity (a word in Guaraní that means: nest of the word) – Creative Space, based in the city of Atyrá, which chooses to tell stories in the line of solutions journalism. El Otro País was born on April 26, 2022, day of the Paraguayan journalist, as a symbol that another journalism is possible, that journalism that makes visible the efforts and results of communities that are constantly solving many of the country's reality problems. Its founders are: Andrés Colmán Gutiérrez, journalistic director, renowned Paraguayan communicator, writer and screenwriter, with several books published and numerous awards received, who developed his professional career mainly in the newspaper Última Hora of Asunción, as a reporter specialized in investigative and narrative journalism; and Desirée Esquivel, executive director, journalist, photographer, audiovisual producer and cultural manager, ambassador in Paraguay of Sembramedia and community manager of the Pamela Howard Forum on Coverage of Global Crises, of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and the International Network of Journalists (IJNet), whose work as part of a team has earned the international ONA Community Award 2021. One of its sources of sustainability is the management of funds by specific projects, which they executed in these almost two years, from: the Avina Foundation, Memetic, Emancipa Paraguay with Internews and Diakonia, which allowed them to develop innovative journalistic projects, amplifying their contents to podcast and comic formats. In addition to this source of sustainability, El Otro País remains in force thanks to the direct sale of products: indigenous crafts from the Pindó community (where the Mbya Guaraní live) in San Cosme and Damián, books and greens from its Agroecological Garden. They also develop comic script and writing workshops; they provide communication consulting services for other organizations; they edit, co-edit (along with Editorial Servilibro) and publish books; and they organize cultural events called Cultural Meriendas.Currently, they have 50 subscribers who support the journalism they do, in exchange they receive benefits such as: free access to the events held by El Otro País, gift books and discounts on all the products that this project offers. They have already received several recognitions from Global Infancia, in 2022, 2023 and 2024, Unicef Paraguay, in 2022 and the Municipality of Atyrá, in the 2023. They are part of the Paraguayan Street Libraries Network and have already sponsored the authorization of 20 throughout the country.
