FactsMatterNG is an initiative launched in 2020 under the International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ) Knight Fellowship program in Nigeria. Its primary mission is to combat misinformation and fake news within the Nigerian digital media landscape by fostering collaborations among journalists, fact-checkers, and social media influencers. The organization produces a variety of content, including fact-checking videos, humor skits, webinars, and podcasts, all designed to present verified information in engaging and easily digestible formats. By leveraging the reach and credibility of prominent social media influencers, FactsMatterNG amplifies fact-checked information, aiming to restore information integrity and inoculate the public against misleading content. The initiative has been recognized for its innovative approach, receiving support from entities like the United States Consulate General in Lagos and being awarded a grant from the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) as part of the Google/YouTube Global Fact-Check Fund. Unique characteristics of FactsMatterNG include its use of humor and culturally resonant content to engage audiences, as well as its commitment to producing materials in local languages to reach underserved communities. Through these efforts, FactsMatterNG continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria's information ecosystem.
