In 2008, after the presidential elections in Armenia, 10 people were killed, and some participants in peaceful rallies were subjected to violence. A group of journalists founded the NGO Journalists Human Rights to protect people from violations of their rights.

The media outlet For Rights was founded in 2013 with the support of the Eurasia Partnership Foundation, and the president of the NGO, journalist Zhanna Aleksanyan, became editor-in-chief.

For Rights is a platform covering everything about human rights, from individual violations to government reforms. It reports on the accountability and transparency of the army, opaque institutions, war crimes, and transitional justice. For Rights also conducts investigations and stimulates public discussions through media projects.
