"Guará Jornalismo" is a daily newsletter dedicated to covering the daily life of Joinville, the largest city in terms of population in Santa Catarina, with 616,000 inhabitants, ahead of the state capital, Florianópolis.
Social inequality and the promotion of democracy are on the radar of Guará Jornalismo's coverage. The name of the newsletter comes from this guideline. "Guará" is a bright red bird that inhabits the mangrove areas of Brazil's southern coast. In Joinville, the mangroves are on the outskirts of the city. According to the founder, Leandro Ferreira, "to see the beauty of the guará, you have to go there".
The aim of the newsletter is to cover subjects that are not covered by other traditional media outlets in the city and region, and to prioritize minority voices. Operations began in March 2023, but it was during the 2022 election period, between October and November, that the Guará Jornalismo project was designed.
The newsletter is sent out from Tuesday to Saturday at 7am, and is released to subscribers on Tuesdays and Thursdays, free of charge. Paid subscribers receive the content every day.
