Gyvenimas per brangus (in English: Life is too expensive) is an independent media outlet launched in 2016 following protests against high food prices and economic inequality, which led to the creation of the workers' solidarity network Gyvenimas per Brangus.
Afterwards, the journalism platform with the same name was launched, aiming to become a "source of left-wing political analyses and news", as the organisation states on the website.
The editorial team publishes everyday life stories from workplaces and elsewhere, as well as political, economic, and cultural analyses and news from Lithuania and abroad. The content is published in writing and in the form of a podcast.
According to the organisation, the stories and topics it covers are underrepresented in mainstream media, including in prominent newspapers and TV channels, which can often be full of noise or that tend to prioritise coverage of salacious or click-bait topics.
The news site is designed to promote social equality, and the media outlet has no links with any government, party, business or religion.
Gyvenimas per brangus finances itself through donations coming from the audience, as well as through sales of merchandising.
