Investico publishes well-researched stories and investigative articles that provide insight into decision-making on societal issues in the Netherlands. Investico examines situations where the execution of policy may fall short, and investigates whether supervisory bodies function as they should.
The organisation aims to counterbalance the focus on short-term issues and strengthen democratic values by creating and feeding the public debate.
Investico's origins can be traced back to a masterclass in investigative journalism set up in 2011 by Dutch weekly De Groene Amsterdammer and investigative journalist Marcel Metze. In 2014, this initiative transformed into the foundation De Onderzoeksredactie, and two years later, in 2016, the organisation adopted the name Investico. The training of young investigative journalists through their Investigative Journalism Masterclass is still an integral part of Investico.
One of Investico's core values is cooperation. It always aims to produce collaborative investigative stories published on its media partners' websites. These collaborations provide a "leverage effect": the investigations are published by several media partners and thus reach larger audiences.
Investico is a media partner of De Groene Amsterdammer, Trouw, Argos, and Nieuwsuur. The organisation also works with investigative media platforms like Follow the Money and Vers Beton.
Investico is a non-profit organisation co-founded by independent investors committed to its mission. The media outlet is relies primarily on donations.
