IvoireCheck is a collaborative fact‑checking initiative in Ivory Coast created in 2020 by the Réseau des Professionnels de la Presse en Ligne (REPPRELCI) as misinformation surged during the Covid‑19 crisis. It brings together reporters from different newsrooms to verify statements by public figures, viral social‑media posts, and claims in local and international outlets about Ivory Coast. Each article is built on verifiable evidence—statistics, laws, dates—and ends with a clear verdict such as True, False, Misleading, Out of Context, Incorrect, Fraud, or a nuanced rating.
The project’s goal is to strengthen trust between audiences and the press by making sourcing and methods transparent and by correcting errors openly. Beyond daily debunks, IvoireCheck helps build sector capacity and media‑literacy skills. In November 2023, REPPRELCI unveiled “La Trousse,” an open‑source CMS derived from the IvoireCheck platform, financed by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie and developed with Les Surligneurs to help francophone newsrooms produce fact‑checks more efficiently.
Since 2022, IvoireCheck has received support from the Africa Fact‑Check Alliance and a Code for Africa–led incubation with DFRLab and the DT Institute, and it is working toward accreditation by the International Fact‑Checking Network. Its fact‑checks are also distributed through regional hubs such as Factoscope, extending reach during high‑stakes moments like election periods. Through verified reporting, shared tools, and cross‑newsroom collaboration, IvoireCheck has become a focal point for combating disinformation in Ivory Coast.
