iWatch Africa is a Ghana-based non-profit media and policy organization that blends data reporting with advocacy to strengthen transparency and civic participation. The newsroom tracks government promises and spending, publishing analyses on education policy and the One District, One Factory initiative, and reporting on human rights abuses, illicit financial flows and environmental harms. Beyond publishing, the organization runs digital-rights programs that document and respond to online abuse of journalists and activists. Since 2020, it has worked with Ghana’s Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and the police to refer cases and draft preventive guidelines, supported by the Africa Digital Rights Fund.
In 2025 it rolled out DisinfoEye, a monitoring and reporting platform backed by Impact Amplifier, and trained journalists to establish online safety units inside their newsrooms. Earlier phases selected reporters from leading outlets in Ghana and Nigeria to cascade safety training and protocols. iWatch Africa’s programs have generated data that informs press‑freedom advocacy and newsroom practice.
The organization’s work is led by editors and researchers with regional credentials; co‑founder Gideon Sarpong won the 2021 West Africa Media Excellence Award for ICT reporting. iWatch Africa also maintains a climate and ocean desk that contributes to public debate on conservation. Its core audience spans citizens, policymakers and media professionals who rely on its investigations, training and practical tools to check power and keep journalists safe.
