Founded by Don Juan Bautista Elizalde Pareja on March 1, 1879. It was born with its own workshops and was the first newspaper to be marketed with advertisers in Guayaquil. Its serious and calm editorial content earned it the public's sympathy. From its origins it brought together the greatest thinkers of the time, it was considered the school of journalism. It was a liberal newspaper, the most emblematic in the country, in addition its printing press was the largest in the city and it was the first newspaper to market through canillitas. In 1945, the newspaper once again took a turn. Editorial Ecuatoriana C.A. is born. And its shareholders: Simón Cañarte Barbero, Belisario Torres Lascano and Francis V. Coleman decide to republish La Nación and the evening newspaper La Hora. The newspaper circulated until Saturday, December 14, 1961, closing its third period. It began on September 1, 2014, was renewed and arrived to do journalism on a new channel: digital.
