An environment made up of women, lesbian women and trans people who are committed to critical, autonomous and anti-patriarchal communication. Communicators and journalists who are committed to working with journalistic and communication rigor, putting the lives of women and LGBTIQ+ people at the center of our stories. They do long-term journalism that lasts and goes deeper into each of the stories. Dreaming of making communication close to social demands, to the reality of girls, boys, women and LGBTIQ+ people sounded like a distant bet. Around 2012, the interest in having one's own media, with a critical editorial line, arose, born with a particular intention of putting to use the knowledge that had been gained over the years from the teachings of Passionate Radialists, so Jeanneth met with a group of colleagues to see if they could somehow complete the form to request a frequency for a community radio station, because if something happened during those years is that as a result of the struggle of organizations that worked from popular, community and human rights communication, the questioning of the monopolies of the media and particularly of radio frequencies was something that began to rise in public opinion, but as dreams do, some do materialize and others do not, this idea of requesting a radio frequency did not take root at that precise moment. Later, in 2016 in the midst of the maelstrom of the regional mobilization Ni Una Menos, Vivas We Want arrived in Ecuador and it became more essential to tell other types of stories, placing the lives of women and LGBTIQ+ people at the center, the seed that had been sown in 2012 as a concern began to take root. And crossing La Alameda park in Quito, in the middle of waiting for a taxi, Mónica Diego and Jeanneth Cervantes chatted about how traditional media, even independent ones, continued to make narratives that did not put the lives of women, girls, boys and LGBTIQ people at the center, and they considered creating a communication portal for women's organizations, but the idea matured and by the end of 2016 the portal would be a feminist digital magazine that would be launched on April 19, 2017.The little boat would be the isotype, a symbol of creativity and feminist bets traveling the world, crossing rivers, seas, facing storms and enjoying sunsets... La Periodica began thinking that it was necessary to democratize the profession, but also do it from a feminist perspective, setting the challenge of showing that feminist journalism is JOURNALISM and working from principles of rigor, making communication a responsible, liberating and feminist exercise.
