Lazy Women is a community media outlet created by women, in the context of Covid-19. It consists of a group of women writers and illustrators working together on a completely voluntary basis, and aims “to challenge the negative connotation of laziness and reclaim it by making ‘public’ the many endeavours women around the world pursue, often in the ‘private sphere’, which are considered less valuable than monetised or public work”.

The outlet offers a women’s  perspective on different subjects, and seeks to demystify gender issues by talking about them in language that is easy to understand.

What Lazy Women seeks is to empower its community by publishing articles on subjects from a gender perspective (for example, on self-confidence as a gender issue), as well as by organising events in partnership with local organisations in London, Paris, Vienna and Florence, and by producing a newsletter and a podcast.

The outlet publishes in English and Hungarian, and has a community that communicates mainly through Slack, with whom it shares information, job offers and organises events – making Lazy Women more than just a media outlet, but a place to meet and exchange ideas and projects.

The organisation also has the particularity of being registered in France, by women with Central European roots. This decision was taken because the founders felt that it would have been difficult to establish themselves as an independent media outlet in the Hungarian media landscape. They felt that they would have been limited in a number of ways; in particular, that they would have had more difficult access to funding and, above all, that it would have been harder to talk freely about gender-related issues.
