Mediapart is a political and general news media founded in 2008 by six former Le Monde journalists following their departure from the media outlet, because it produced "a journalism of validation more than of investigation".
It is one of the first organisations established within France's independent online media ecosystem, and its business model has become an example for other media outlets.
Currently, the organisation is managed by the non-profit Fund for a Free Press via the Society for the Protection of Press Freedom, which guarantees its total economic independence and protects its capital from any private or particular interest.
Furthermore, the Free Press Fund defends freedom of information, press pluralism, and independent journalism by supporting independent media to find their business model, thus promoting a sustainable, supportive, and dynamic media ecosystem.
Mediapart prints the magazine La Revue Dessinée, compiling its best investigations and transforming them into comics, and the Revue du crieur magazine, co-published with La Découverte, which is devoted to ideas and culture.
The media outlet also has a section called Le Club de Mediapart, where subscribers can contribute to the platform with texts, links, images, photographs, videos, and audio.
