Mongabay Latam is an independent media that covers environmental issues. It seeks to have a network of collaborators who want to raise awareness and inform about relevant environmental issues. It operates as the Latin American newsroom of Mongabay, a global environmental news outlet with a scientific focus that produces original content in four languages ​​with 500 correspondents in 50 countries around the world. Much of Mongabay has operated as part of the non-profit organization – Mongabay.org – since 2012. Founded in 1999 by Rhett A. Butler through his passion for nature and wildlife, Mongabay is staffed by a team of committed people and supported by a large network of journalists in more than a dozen countries. Mongabay improves understanding of the simultaneous global-scale forces deteriorating the health of Earth's systems. Mongabay makes science accessible and elevates the voices and knowledge of those who are directly affected by environmental changes.
