Negrita Come Coco

La Negrita Come Coco is a character who promotes Dominican popular culture through social networks. On her website, she fights for the acceptance of Afro-descendant origins in society and, in a joking way, denounces the evils that affect Dominicans. Her name is due to the fact that in the Dominican Republic people often use that term to discriminate against women with dark skin and curly hair. In this way, La Negrita makes fun of those full of prejudices, showing them that anyone with those physical characteristics can be intelligent and capable. Furthermore, with her curvy body, curly hair and tanned skin, she shows that no matter what we are, the important thing is to accept and love ourselves. Its creator, journalist Ndhira Suero Acosta, says: "The idea of ​​La Negrita began while I was in the university. I had the desire to create a blog to promote Dominican culture and I always knew that it would be called Negrita Come Coco. I remember explaining my idea to a teacher and she thought it was good; After that, when I was at the Listín Diario newspaper, I had the opportunity to write an opinion column under the name Negrita Come Coco. Since I saw that people liked it and it was well received, I immediately thought about taking the character to social networks, especially Facebook.
