Nehna

Nehna is a website founded by six volunteers, all members of the Arab-Christian Orthodox community from the southern city of Antakya.

The founders wanted to have a website to publish long-form pieces to give more insight into the community. A network of contributors submits essays, chronicles and narrative journalism pieces, mainly on the history and social life of ethnic and religious minorities.

Nehna publishes at least one long-form article each week thanks to the two voluntary editors, one for commissioning assignments and one for editing, polishing, and publishing the articles.

The team highly values transparency, a proof of which is it published detailed interviews with each founder when the media launched.

Surprised by the attention received from a much larger audience than the religious minority, Nehna regularly engages with its readers on Twitter, Facebook, and social events.

The founders are considering establishing a legal entity, which would enable them to hire part-time editors, pay a small fee to each contributor and sustain the content's quality in the long term.
