As soon as the innovative daily news service was launched it became quickly apparent that not only did the regional, national, and international readership find it of interest, the local residents soon showed they preferred their news on an immediate and daily basis. Newsport has continued to provide a balanced and accurate online news service delivering news professionally and with integrity on a daily basis covering news, sports, entertainment, and a wide range of special features that reflect everything that affects tropical Australia. The news service continued to grow and has helped visitors to the area relate with their experiences. This created a 'window' into Port Douglas and the Douglas Shire that visitors could enjoy from the comfort of their own homes while keeping abreast of the latest items making the tropical north tick. In 2009, a 35-year veteran of international news, Roy Weavers, joined the team and five daily industry and local stories were delivered to provide the region's first respectable Online Daily News Service. After the closure of the weekly print newspaper in 2020, Newsport is now considered the region's local newspaper online and carries on the tradition of providing accurate, informative, and relevant news to the Douglas Shire and wider tropical Far North Queensland.
