Novator.az is an alternative news source founded in Baku in 2015. The platform's creation followed the closure of mediaforum.az, a media outlet managed by the same editorial team.
It publishes interviews and articles written by a wide range of civil society representatives, opposition parties, representatives, and activists who are not included in the government's media outlets, or media channels close to the government.
"Journalism has a simple principle. The social, political, and cultural layers of the country are diverse. There is government, there is opposition, and there are neutrals. Every media must allocate space to these figures to be a professional platform. Nothing is surprising here. We live in a country where media organisations are unipolar. Therefore, Novator.az stands out as an alternative media channel. However, this does not mean alternative media. We're just a normal media platform, that's all. Giving space to alternative voices is a normal act of normal media," Novator.az's founder Azer Garachenli says.
Novator.az operates only in Azerbaijani and is updated daily. The platform does not currently have any income source and runs voluntarily. Its founder still does not know whether the media outlet will generate income in the future.
