Varadouro is a media organization based in Rio Branco, the capital of Acre. After writing in its printed pages about one of the most critical moments in the history of the Brazilian Amazon, in the midst of the military dictatorship, Varadouro returns with the same spirit of courage and determination to produce journalism in defense of the Amazon rainforest, now in the digital age.

Previously restricted to exclusive coverage of Acre issues, Varadouro returns connected to the demands of the entire invisible Northern region. Its main mission is to do Amazon journalism for the people of the Amazon—be they urban, rural, or forest dwellers. There is a clear perception that the global urgency of protecting the world's most important rainforest, as well as the effects of climate change, are issues far removed from the concerns of local society.

A developmentalist discussion promoted by the old political and economic oligarchies spreads the idea among the region's residents that keeping the forest standing is the main reason for keeping the Brazilian North in poverty, with the worst social and economic indicators in the country. Using the structure of the traditional press, they propagate that only agribusiness can "lift us out of backwardness." The return of Varadouro aims to deconstruct this discussion and work on a sense of Amazonian identity and belonging.
