Periferia is a popular communication project that began in 2004 as the commitment of a group of friends interested in making popular communication a tool to make visible the resistance processes of communities in the periphery of Colombia. We understand Popular Communication as the process in which communities, on their initiative, build strategies to address their communication needs. From this perspective, listening, dialogue and the collective construction of knowledge are prioritized, and reality is problematized with the aim of transforming it.  For this reason we understand that communication does not only have an informative function, but is part of the daily life of our communities to mediate, resolve or reveal conflicts. Popular Communication is then a response of organized people in the search for a more just, free and humane society.
