Plaza Publica

Plaza Pública is a media that aims to provide information and ideas in pursuit of a solid, vigorous democracy, with ethics and social justice. Founded by the Rafael Landívar University, we belong to the Vice-Rector's Office for Research and Projection and we are financed mainly with the university's budget. Plaza Pública is a laboratory, a construction site. With a narrative identity based on long, nuanced, deep texts, and increasingly exploring transmedia narratives and precision journalism, we have reached places and central topics that used to go unnoticed in national journalism. Thus, we seek to recount the injustices committed by previously unmentionable powers in the country, such as child labor in sugar, transitional justice, the relationships between economy and politics, and human rights.

We have a small but dedicated journalistic team that, in addition to investigating, participates in a training program for university students and other educational activities. In these years, furthermore, we have left our borders. We have multiple alliances with media from countries in Latin America, Europe and the United States and we are one of the members of the Global Investigative Journalism Network. We have a Creative Commons license, which allows anyone who wishes to reproduce our content free of charge, with the only requirement of placing a link to the original when it is an online medium, and citing our page and placing our logo when it is a printed medium. This does not include articles that other media or agencies have provided us as a courtesy.
