Premium Times is a Nigerian investigative newsroom headquartered in Abuja and published by Premium Times Services Limited. Launched in mid-2011, it reports in English and through Premium Times Hausa to reach audiences nationwide. The outlet’s mission is civic-minded: strengthening democracy, promoting transparency and human rights, and raising the standards of Nigerian journalism. Its reporting spans public-interest investigations into corruption and abuse of office, election integrity, security and human rights, alongside coverage of the economy, health, energy, culture and sport.
Premium Times is known for accountability journalism that sparks official scrutiny and public debate, as well as cross-border collaborations. As Nigeria’s partner in the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ Panama Papers project, its journalists contributed to the reporting that won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting for ICIJ, the Miami Herald and McClatchy. In 2017, the newsroom won the Global Shining Light Award for uncovering mass graves and extrajudicial killings in Nigeria’s South-East.
Beyond its national desk in Abuja, the organisation maintains bureaus in Lagos and Uyo and a small office in Washington, D.C., reflecting an interest in diaspora and policy coverage. Premium Times also runs special projects and issue verticals that document systemic problems—from police abuse to predatory governance—aiming at readers who expect rigorous, verifiable reporting that holds power to account.
