Radio Parleur is a podcast studio exclusively covering social, ecological, and political stories. It produces audio content and analysis programmes and reflects on political imaginaries.
Its mission is to cover social movements and make visible the voices of the people less heard in the mainstream media. "On a picket line, in the middle of an anti-racist demonstration, at an eco-feminist workshop: we are there where you fight, by your side, to carry your voice, and put your fights in sound and light," its website states.
Founded in 2016, Radio Parleur introduced itself in journalism following the Nuit débout movement. Three journalists from RMC radio approached Radio Campus Paris, covering the social movement from the inside, to produce Radio Débout, a radio station set up every evening in Place de la République. At the end of the action, the three journalists created Radio Parleur to continue their work.
The organisation aims to use journalism as a political tool and believes that making people's voices visible is a political act.
At least 80% of their content is produced by volunteers, including recently graduated journalists and activists seeking to make their issues visible. Radio Parleur's mission is to train and guide them. However, the team is slowly moving from a volunteer-run newsroom to a position where it can start to pay the staff that produces the content.
