Realnews Magazine is a Lagos-based, privately owned online news outlet published by Realnews Magazine and Publications Limited. Founded in 2012 by veteran journalist Maureen Chigbo, it focuses on investigative reporting across Nigeria’s business and economy, the oil and gas industry and environmental issues, with recurring coverage of politics, governance and social concerns affecting women, youth and other vulnerable groups. Its editors have decades of experience, and members of the newsroom have received honours such as the Nigerian Media Merit Award and Diamond Awards for Media Excellence. Publishing in English, Realnews reports daily, produces in‑depth features and interviews, and runs video journalism under the RealNews TV banner.
Beyond publishing, the organisation convenes the Realnews Anniversary Lecture Series, established in 2014 to interrogate public policy and development in Nigeria and across Africa. Past lecturers and chairs have included NDLEA chairman Mohammed Buba Marwa (2022), Ghana’s former president John Dramani Mahama (2019), and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha (2020). The series culminates in induction into the Realnews Hall of Fame for speakers and discussants; in 2024, honourees included former UN ambassador Ibrahim Gambari, UN Women’s Beatrice Eyong and economist Karim El Aynaoui. For 2025, the organisation announced a cybersecurity and illicit‑finance theme for its 13th lecture, underscoring a sustained interest in governance, transparency and accountability.
