"Rede Lume de Jornalistas” was created in Londrina-PR at the end of 2018, amidst a presidential election campaign and the spread of disinformation. Annoyed by the proliferation of fake news, the founding journalists decided to establish the site. Initially, they considered starting a fact-checking agency but found that there were already quality initiatives in this area.
Given that human rights were a core issue for all the founders, they unanimously decided to create a news site with a focus on this coverage. The name “Rede Lume” was chosen to "amplify silenced voices and shine a light on issues made invisible by a patriarchal, prejudiced, and hetero-normative society with an exclusionary logic."
The organization has since focused on issues related to the LGBTQIA+ community, police violence and abuse, the prison system, public policies, and more. Its mission is to bring attention to these critical issues and advocate for change.
