GatoEncerrado was born in April 2014, after utopian talks by the founders Ezequiel Barrera and Mario Beltrán. It was until May 2017 when we managed to complete the legalization process.

Its content prioritizes in-depth notes, analysis, narratives and data on politics, gender, environment, culture and judicial matters.

The general objective of Revista GatoEncerrado is "to tell through journalistic narrative the stories and events of the political, cultural and environmental sphere from a gender and inclusive perspective, in a responsible and rigorous way, attached to the truth as a product of exhaustive investigations that awaken in readers a sense of justice for the construction of a better society," explains Mario Beltrán, director of the magazine.

"As a medium, we are committed to exploiting multimedia and new digital narratives. Among the expansion plans are #GatoLab, an initiative that seeks to share strategies used with those who wish to learn. There are also objectives for radio, some short films and thematic observatories from journalism."

The journalistic genres that the medium usually uses are chronicle, reportage, opinion and photoreports. Their research techniques have a main emphasis on journalistic reporting, verification and rigor, contrast and management of sources, requests for access to public information, literary journalism and new digital narratives.
