Ripples Nigeria is an independent digital newsroom based in Lagos, founded in May 2015. The outlet reports on politics, public policy, business and the economy, with a strong emphasis on investigative and data-driven journalism. Its reporters have produced in‑depth investigations on public spending, health and consumer safety, and it runs RipplesMetrics, a regular series that interrogates datasets from the Open Treasury Portal, the banking sector and other public sources to explain how decisions affect citizens. In 2023 the newsroom won a Diamond Award for Media Excellence for an investigation into trans fats in roadside foods across northern Nigeria. Ripples Nigeria also invests in innovation: in 2021 it won the Google News Initiative Innovation Challenge to build Eco‑Nai+, billed as Nigeria’s first interactive geo‑journalism platform for environmental reporting and climate data. Training and public discourse are part of its model. Through its sister nonprofit, the Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism (RCDIJ), the organization offers reporting masterclasses and convenes the Ripples Nigeria Dialogue, whose maiden edition in 2018 featured Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka. The newsroom serves Nigerians at home and in the diaspora who want accountability reporting and clear analysis. Editor‑in‑Chief Samuel Ibemere leads a team that includes editors Edirin Etaghene and Chidi Chinedu. Its guiding motto captures the approach: “without borders, without fears.”
