Seguimiento.Co

http://www.seguimiento.co
It was born as a university project in 2009. Polo Díaz-Granados, a Communication student at the Universidad del Rosario, gave life to this initiative designed and developed to take advantage of the impact of social networks as a mechanism for information exchange, discussion, and oversight of the public function in his land, the department of Magdalena and its capital, Santa Marta. He did it remotely, from Bogotá, and in April 2010 it materialized in Seguimiento.co, which could be the first digital native medium in the region. The medium has its raison d'être in areas such as public complaints, journalistic investigation and historical memory. In 2015 it was established as a company formally established through Sociedad Publicaciones Seguimiento SAS and in 2016 it was established as a digital communication medium with face-to-face headquarters in the city of Santa Marta. In these years of uninterrupted operation, the investigation has gained a lot of strength and has allowed it to uncover some cases of corruption or 'suspicious' contracts in the city, and it has become a permanent observer of the management of the officials. "We are aware that we have grown up in a society without memory, that is why we also care about contributing to 'not forgetting'," it says in its description. Currently, Seguimiento.co belongs to the Colombian network of investigative journalists Editorial Council. In its search to achieve sustainability, and faced with the difficulty of not having a public advertising schedule – a common situation for independent media that monitor the public service – its founder explores financing alternatives. Recently, the media was chosen among proposals from all over Latin America to participate in an exchange program with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), based in Washington, United States.
