SeneNews is an independent digital news publisher based in Dakar that covers Senegal’s politics, economy, society, culture and sport for domestic and diaspora audiences. Launched in 2010 by engineer and media entrepreneur Massamba Kane, the company operates under the legal name Senenews SUARL and publishes in French with an English-language edition for regional and international readers. Its newsroom produces daily reporting, opinion and explainers, and extends to video through SeneNews TV, which airs talk programs such as La Bonne Heure and field reports distributed across its platforms and social channels. Beyond its flagship site, the group runs a small network of verticals, including OnzedAfrik focused on football, Sunubuzz for entertainment, and Metrodakar. Distribution spans the web and mobile apps. The outlet introduced SeneNews Premium in 2017, adding subscriber-only articles to an advertising-led model; revenue comes primarily from advertising, complemented by national contracts and paid subscriptions. In December 2024, SeneNews was among the media organizations officially recognized by the Senegalese government as compliant with the Press Code, part of a wider effort to professionalize the sector. In March 2025 it reported a major DDoS cyberattack that temporarily disrupted access, underscoring the visibility of Senegal’s leading digital newsrooms and their security challenges. SeneNews holds the serial identifier ISSN 2279-4077.
