Proyecto Soma is a Peruvian organization that operates at the Latin American level, dedicated to information, education and the care necessary in a world with drugs. In addition to executing risk reduction and pleasure management strategies in nightlife spaces, Soma is a media outlet that curates information on social networks and develops its own journalistic content in different formats. On November 16, 2018, Soma recommended the first article on Instagram, which rescued the essential points of the article How Seniors Joined the Cannabis Craze, in The New Yorker. Three months later, they published the website with a first text: How to intoxicate yourself with your own brain chemistry, a version adapted and translated by Soma from an article published by the Mosaic Science portal. In November 2021, they began their risk and harm reduction interventions at parties and nightlife spaces, providing information and analyzing substances. Why talk about drugs? Humanity has always used drugs. For this reason, the prohibition of these, fifty years ago, has not made them disappear, nor has consumption and violence decreased. The ban only exposes users to the greatest risk: ignorance. The taboo around these creates lies that undermine the well-being and freedom of millions, it means that substances reach people before they know how to use them, and the informal market does not guarantee that the substances are what they say they are. Today, the lies and disastrous consequences of the war on drugs are evident and new harm reduction policies are increasingly welcomed. These are based on accepting that drug use is a reality and that there are multiple strategies for people to relate to them with lower risks. The transition to a world with regulated drugs is inevitable, in accordance with respect for democracy, freedoms, well-being and human rights.
