Spotlight is a South African journalism non-profit that produces compelling, in-depth public interest health journalism. It has a particular focus on HIV and tuberculosis, although it is increasingly also covering health reforms, the functioning of the South African healthcare system, and non-communicable diseases like diabetes. While Spotlight’s central role is to be a source of clear, credible, and evidence-based information about important health issues, it has also broken big investigative journalism stories and provided a platform for informed public debate on health issues. Spotlight is a member of the South African Press Council and thereby subject to South Africa’s system of media self-regulation. Spotlight’s articles are syndicated for free to a wide range of main stream media outlets in South Africa including News24 and the Daily Maverick.
