StreetPress wants people to get out of the continuous flow of information and proposes to return to the level of the ground, the street, in making the voices heard of those forgotten in the public debate and fighting against the prejudices that divide society.

StreetPress is anti-racist, against the radical right, feminist, against police violence, and on the side of refugees, ecologists, and the precarious.

It practises "engaged and conscious" journalism, according to their StreetPress manifest, and considers that a journalist who calls himself "neutral" betrays journalism and its readers. Meaning that "by not assuming the editorial choices they make despite everything, the media lost the trust of our generation".

Therefore, the organisation aims to publish information by clarifying its editorial choices: which topics and stories it covers and why. The journalists choose to cover a story for the impact they want them to have, and for the questions they raise. Not for the number of shares and likes they should generate on social media.

In 2012, StreetPress created the free training programme La Street School, to introduce journalism to highly motivated young people aged 20 to 30. Ten national media organisations participated in the programme and enrolment did not require a degree. It has trained dozens of young journalists from all social classes, all neighbourhoods, and all cultures.
