The project was born in November 2013 in the midst of a wave of local digital initiatives of which less than half remain. Its director Erika Verdi explains that she was motivated by the absence of instantaneity. "I do not intend to compete with traditional media, it is necessary to know what is happening at the moment." Within a few months, at the beginning of 2014, a social political climate was generated in Venezuela marked by anti-government protests that disrupted the functioning of communication and information. "TachiraNews was born in the middle of the guarimbas, through Twitter the project was catapulted." Verdi and her husband, both journalists from the University of Los Andes, were in charge of transmitting what was happening near their residence and what they could verify with collaborators located in other parts of this state bordering Colombia. Several sectors remained isolated for a month, as a result of barricades made by neighbors who defended this initiative, which they claimed would affect the government. Others criticized this measure that prevented the inhabitants themselves from leaving their homes. In this context they decided to temporarily move to Barinas, but with them it remained and now with more justification, the intention to continue communicating what was happening in their home state. They hire two reporters who cover and upload news from the Community, Politics and Events sources. In parallel, Verdi visits different companies in the city of Caracas to present his commercial proposal. Directv, Movistar, Sambil, Mayor's Office of San Cirstóbal, among other advertisers, allow the operation to be covered. They are seeking to learn about other income methods to expand their impact.
