The Lede is part of the Media Development Foundation team. The foundation organises MezhyhiryaFest, a journalism exchange programme and a media manager academy.

Its goals, among others, are to implement projects to improve the media and to use the knowledge accumulated over the years to create and share content with the public. The Lede decided to capitalise on what it had already developed, gather all these components in one place, turn it into a separate resource that included the expertise in media development, and make it publicly available to everyone interested.

The word "lede" comes from journalistic slang. It appeared sometime between 1950 and 1970. Linotypes were used for printing at that time - machines on which the text consisted of typed matrices with letters or other symbols. It was the printers and typesetters that invented the "lede".

There is a similar word in English - the "lead". It was a strip of metal that typesetters put between the lines of text to leave more space between them when printing. Journalists also used it. Printers and typesetters were often confused about what to do: highlight the lead or add more space when typing the newspaper. Then "lede" appeared as a designation of the first sentence of the text.

The Lede publishes material in the following sections and columns: stories, lifehacks, money, and management.
