Tidens ånd (in English: Spirit of Time) is a free and independent online media outlet publishing features, reviews, news, essays, and articles on culture in Norway and abroad.
The main cultural areas that the media outlet covers are art, music, and literature. The magazine was launched in September 2022 by Natt & Dag magazine's former culture editor Ida Wammer to respond to a gap in the market. According to Wammer, the magazine aims to distance itself from cultural journalism based on the "tyranny of recommendations".
Apart from Wammer, the team consists of full-time editor-in-chief Yngve Sikko and managing editor Sindre Olsson; the editorial team currently relies solely on freelancers. The first Tidens ånd iteration was launched with a free "register to read" model. The content is accessible freely, but readers must register on the website and have a personal profile in order to access the content. Additionally, users can also receive newsletters and invitations to events and parties by signing up for the mailing list.
The organisation plans to launch a paid membership model in the near future. Furthermore, it aims to increase its revenue with advertising from public institutions, such as museums, cultural initiatives or musicians, events, and group subscriptions.
