Unbias The News

https://unbiasthenews.org/

Created as a project of the NGO Hostwriter, Unbias the News’ vision is to create a more equitable and inclusive journalism sector and thereby “increase international understanding across borders and contribute to the elimination of prejudice and discrimination”.

To do so, the team fosters collaboration between up-and-coming international journalists, supporting them to sharpen and publish their stories. Through the Hostwriter platform, its network sums up over 6,000 registered journalists in over 150 countries.

Topics covered include stories on migration, police brutality or climate change – most recently, through an international series called the Sinking Cities. The articles are published in English on its website, many with audio options, and through a newsletter which includes further resources on tackling biases, behind-the-scenes insights, and bi-weekly information on training and networking opportunities.

Through its “Indie Newsroom”, the organisation offers cooperation opportunities to independent media outlets in “countries where press freedom is under threat and civil spaces are rapidly shrinking” through mutual amplification of publications and joint events.

The project is funded by various public and philanthropic organisations and private donations. Donors giving over 100 euros receive a free copy of its book Unbias the News – why diversity matters for journalism.

In addition, Unbias the News offers training sessions on cross-border and solution-oriented journalism, amongst other things.
