Under The Radar is an independent website that publishes news and information about the music scene in Aotearoa New Zealand. It started in 2004 as an online record store and has since expanded its range of services to include a gig guide for live shows happening all across the country, interviews with musicians, as well as the promotion of musical communities and alternative music.
In 2008, it developed an online ticketing platform, after finding that tickets to the shows its employees wanted to see were hard to come by. The service allows event organisers to ticket their gigs easily as well as other people to add a gig to Under The Radar gig guide. Both of these features are free for the promoters, the costs covered via a booking fee added to the ticket price. In over 20 years, it has sold over 1 million tickets to over 25,000 local music events and has a membership of 350,000 people.
Under The Radar sends out a weekly free email newsletters to over 100,000 subscribers with a list of upcoming shows, as well as gigs that are currently available across the country. It has a variety of ways people can advertise, including on the website, in the newsletter, packages that cover the website, newsletter, social media and editorial, as well as some self-service options available in the gig guide. It also has an app that operates on both iOS and android.
